VIETNAM OVERLAND

This trip allows us to get a deep appreciation for this beautiful country and its people. From the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh, we head to the watery world of the Mekong before starting our north bound journey through the central highlands, to the historical towns of Hue and Hoi An. We also expose you to the north western area  where is home to many hill tribe groups. A half day cruise and relaxing in  Halong Bay is the perfect way to finish this memorable.

DETAILED INTINERARY

Day 1: Arrival - Ho Chi Minh

On arrival at Tan San Nhat Airport , you are met and transferred to hotel. Ho Chi Minh City is the center of commerce, finance, culture and tourism in Viet nam. This bustling metropolis ,contradiction of its northern counterpart, is crowded with bikes and motorbikes, excited by numerous shopping area and sidewalk cafés. An afternoon city tour of dynamic Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many locals, includes the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Sai gon Post Office, a lacquerware factory, the Chinatown . O/N in Ho Chi Minh.

Day 2: Ho Chi Minh - My Tho - Ho Chi Minh

After two hours by road from Ho Chi Minh’s bustling streets, we wenture into the watery world of the Mekong Delta. As a highlight of the trip, we take few hour boat excursion along narrow waterways through the lush vegetation to an orchard garden where we have the opportunity to visit local homes as well as enjoy a lunch followed with seasonal fruits. Day 3: Ho Chi Minh - Da Lat

Today, we start our north bound journey with the first stop being Da Lat, one of Viet nam’s most charming towns. At an elevation of 1,500 meters, Da Lat, called the" city of eternal spring" , have been established as a hill station at the beginning of the last century. The city is set around a lake and surrounded forests, waterfalls and rolling countryside. O/N in Da Lat. (B)

Day 4: Da Lat - Nha Trang

The sightseeing tour of Da Lat includes the former residence of Emperor Bao Dai, Hang Nga House, Xuan Huong Lake, the Central Market, the Love Valley and Lam Ty Ni Pagoda. The afternoon, we travel by road to Nha Trang with stopover at the scenic pass of Ngoan Muc and the 13th century Po Klong Jarai Cham Towers. O/N in Nha Trang. (B)

Day 5: Nha Trang

The picturesque coastal town of Nha Trang is an ideal place for anyone seeking an enjoyable escape. Taking a boat trip out we explore some nearby islands of the South China Sea and spend a half day on the turquoise water enjoying  swimming, snorkeling, lazing on a beach and feasting on seafood lunch. O/N in NhaTrang. (B,L)

Day 6:Nha Trang - Buon Ma Thuat - Lak Lake

The Cham Ponagar Towers is also visited this morning before we head out of town to Buon Ma Thuat . On arrival at Lak Lake we enjoy an elephant ride through hill tribe villages and paddy fields. O/N at June village. (B)

Day 7: Buon Ma Thuat - Pleiku

Upon leaving the longhouse, we take a dugout ride on Lak Lake in the scenic surrounding mountainsides to visit M’lieng rustic village, home to the M’nong hill tribe people. Then, we travel by road through Vietnam's biggest growing coffee area to Pleiku. The deep contrast of lush vegetation and red surface of basaltic soil is incredible all along the way. O/N in Pleiku .(B)

Day 8: Pleiku - Hoi An

An early morning start to drive north to Hoi An which was originally a Cham seaport but has been influenced down centuries by a myriad of traders from various cultures. There is a long journey, but the views are fantastic. Along the way you can make stops as you please, to stretch your legs and take photographs. O/N in Hoi An. (B)

Day 9: Hoi An - Hue

The tranquil and charm of Hoi An with its lowed tiled houses of Chinese appearance, Japanese covered bridge, brightly painted temples and pagodas make it one of Viet nam’s most delightful places. A morning sightseeing of Hoi An is unforgettable.Then, we travel by road to Hue with stopover at the sensational Marble Mountain and the display of Cham’s sculpture.O/N in Hue.(B)

Day 10: Hue

Hue was once Vietnam's feudal capital. The elaborate tomb of Emperor Tu Duc and the beautiful pagoda of Thien Mu are not be missed. Today we include these in a guided boat trip on the Perfume River which also provides us some fantastic views of the countryside and an enjoyable visit to the mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang, in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes as well as the Imperial Citadel from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945 . O/N in Hue. (B)

Day 11: Hue - Ha Noi - Mai Chau village

We board a morning flight to Ha Noi. On arrival in Noi Bai airport you are picked up and the we travel by road through mountain area to Mai Chau. We will spend afternoon time to explore this beautifull valley and meet the white Thai hill-tribe people. They are all friendly and welcoming. Have dinner and O/N on traditional stilt house Mai Chau. (B,D)

Day 12: Mai Chau - Son La

Heading out of Mai Chau we start to drive to Son La. There is a long day travelling; however many villages dot the hillsides and the undulating terrain of tea plantation make for an interesting journey. En route we make stop to see the Thai and H'mong hill tribe people. O/N in Son La. (B)

Day 13: Son La - Dien Bien Phu

The morning we visit Son La old prison and some of nearby hill-tribe villages before we depart for Dien Bien Phu, the site of the decisive battle in Vietnam’s struggle for independence in 1954. The scenic route climbs over Pha Din Pass before dropping down to Dien Bien Phu Town where have a chance seeing the museum and the display of war materials. O/N in Dien Bien Phu .(B)

Day 14: Dien Bien Phu - Tam Duong

Upon leaving Dien Bien we spend a full day travelling through Vietnam’s most mountainous region. Along the way there are some opportunities to explore the spectacular scenery with a mixture of terraced fields and hill villages and visit the Red Hmong, Kho Mu, Mang, Dao hill tribe people. O/N in Tam Duong. (B)

Day 15: Tam Duong - SaPa

The scenery of the north is unequalled although conditions are vary basic.The morning we continue to drive on bumpy roads to Sa Pa. At an elevation of 1,500 meters, Sa Pa is a former French hill resort and home to some of Viet nam’s most colorful ethnic minority groups. The afternoon is free to visit the town. O/N in Sapa. (B)

Day 16: Sa Pa

The Phan Si Pang range boasts Viet Nam’s highest mountain and lends an alpine feel to the area surrounding this hill station. Today we have enough time to visit Sapa market where the Red Dao, Black Hmong, Tay , Xa Pho ethnic minority people converge from the surrounding mountainsides or valley to trade their goods and enjoy a walk to some nearby hill tribe villages. O/N in Sapa. (B)

Day 17: Sa Pa - Ha Noi

The return trip begins as we leave Sapa. The scenic route following the Red River passes through picturesque landscapes changing from the Tonkinese Alps to the Delta Region. O/N in Ha Noi. (B)

Day 18: Ha Noi - Ha Long

Heading out of town we travel by road to Ha Long Bay with stopover in Hai Phong, the biggest port town of northern Vietnam. A short sightseeing tour of Hai Phong takes through tree lined boulevards to Hang Kenh Communal House , Du Hang Pagoda with beautiful wooden carvings and Hang Kenh carpet factory. O/N in HaLong. (B)

Day 19: Ha Long - Ha Noi

Ha Long Bay boasts one of Vietnam's most impressive scenic sights. This morning, we embark on a cruise out to explore the picturesque scenery blending of the sky and some 1,969 islands rising amazingly from the clear and emerald water. A long the way we will anchor for a leisurely swim in a secluded cove. After a seafood lunch on board we return to Ha Noi, with stopover at Dong Trieu pottery village. O/N in Ha Noi. (B,L)

Day 20: Ha Noi

Today, we enjoy a full day guided tour of Ha Noi, visiting Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature well known as Viet Nam’s first university ,the Fine Art Museum , the beautiful lake of Hoan Kiem with its sacred temple, the Ethnology Museum, the Old quarters streets and the West Lakes. The performance of Ha Noi's famous water puppets is not to be missed this evening. O/N in Ha Noi.(B)

Day 21: Ha Noi - Departure

There is a free time to relax or further explore Ha Noi. The tour ends after your transfer to Noi Bai Airport transfer for departure. (B)

TRIP NOTES:

     Vietnam is developing countries whose infrastructure, values, customs, standard may different from what you expect in your home land. Road condition are poor, accommodation and transportation may be basic in remote area.

      Daily breakfast (B) and 03 lunches (L) are included on this trip. Other meals are at client’s expenses. However, the trip with full board meal is arranged upon request.

     The dress standards are conservative thoughout Asia. Loose, lightweight, long clothing are all respectful and cool in Asian hot climate. In addition to your items of personal clothing, we suggest you to bring trainer or sneaker shoes, jacket for cold weather, torch/flash light, hat, rain coat for wet season, sun cream, sunglasses, daypack, toiletries and small towel, insect repellent.

     Occationally, this itinerary may be amended for reasons beyond our control as weather, flight delay or road conditions.
