Vientiane - Xieng Khouang - Pakse - Khong Island - Luang Prabang - Vientiane

 

With a rich and ancient history, smiling people and beautiful nature, Laos is a wonderful country to explore. This adventurous trip that takes us right around the country, incorporates significant sites; the archeological Plain of Jars, the four thousand island area, the World Heritage site of Wat Phu , the mighty Mekong River  the tranquil town Lung Prabang. What a great way to discover Laos!

Detailed itinerary:

 

Day 1:Arrival -Vientiane

On arrival at Wattay Airport or Friendship Bridge, you are met and transferred to centrally located hotel. After a short rest, we start to visit the major sights of the capital, including  the oldest Wat Sisaket with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. On the way to the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, we stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patouxai Monument which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. O/N in Vientiane.

Day 2: Vientiane - Xieng Khouang

After breakfast, we visit the Morning Market, and the weaving village of Ban Nong Bouathong before board a short afternoon flight to Xieng Khouang, which was devastated by American bombing between 1964 and 1973. Upon arrival, we transfer out to visit the “Plan of Jars” , an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are littered all over the plateau. We also have time, this afternoon seeing the old capital of Muang Khun Province and the nearby villages, home to the Hmong hill tribe people. They have an interesting local culture and a colorful history. O/N in Phonesavanh.(B)

 

Day 3: Xieng Khouang - Vientiane

After breakfast, we travel by land about 306 km down Hill Mountain with splendid natural scenery to LuangPrabang. The tranquility and charm of this town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos. After checking into hotel, we start seeing the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, the shrine of Wat Aham. We then climb up to the top of Phousi Hill for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a beautiful sunset view of the city and the Mekong River (if time permit). Day 4: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou cave - Luang Prabang

Today, we enjoy a short guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sen  and the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represent the classical architecture of Luang Prabang temple. We then embark on a cruise upstream on the Mekong River which also gives us a beautiful view of the tranquil countryside as well as  an interesting visit to the mysterious of Pak Ou Caves, crammed with  thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. Along the way, we stop at the village of  Ban Xang Hai, where they make the local rice wine. On return, we take a short drive to Ban Phanom, well known for its hand weaving. O/N in Luang Prabang. Day 5: Luang Prabang - Vientiane

The National Museum at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of the artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign, and the Central market are not to be missed. We visit these sights before we catch a flight back to Vientiane. O/N in Vientiane. (B)

Day 6: Vientiane - Pakse - Khong Island

An early morning transfer to airport for flight to Pakse. On arrival, we embark on a long tail boat to Champasak , then travel by roads to the ruins of Wat Phu which is well known as  the most important Hindu  sanctuary of the Khmer Empire between 9th –13th century. Here is also a chance to visit some nearby Khmer temples and Buddhist shrines. O/N in Khong Island.(B)

Day 7: Khong Island

Today, we enjoy a cruise venturing into the widest reach of the Mekong River from  where thousands of  islets jut out in dry season, giving this area a lovely name” Siphandon ”.  A long the way, we stop at the Liphi waterfalls and the fisherman village of Ban Khone. On return, we take a short drive to the Lao-Cambodia border at Weukham and the sight of Khone Phapheng, which boats Southeast Asia’s biggest water falls. O/N in Khong Island.( B)

Day 8: Khong Island - Tadlo - Pakse

Upon leaving Khong Island, we continue our journey towards Tadlo. The road conditions are very poor, but the deep contrast of lush vegetation and red surface of basaltic soil is incredible all along the way. En route, there are some opportunities to explore a part of Boloven plateau and visit some hill villages of the Katu, Alak and Nge ethnic minority people. O/N in Pakse. (B)

Day 9: Pakse - Vientiane

There is a free time for your own exploration of Pakse Town before we board a flight to Vientiane.  After checking into hotel, we transfer out to see the Buddha Park, a blend of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures created by mystical monk on a parkland located by the Mekong River and the impressive Friendship Bridge. A view of the spectacular sunset over the Mekong River is perfect way to finish the day. O/N at Vientiane. (B)

Day 10:Vientiane - Departure

There is free time for your relaxation until transfer to Wattay Airport or Friend ship Bridge for departure. (B)

     Laos is developing countries whose infrastructure, values, customs, standard may different from what you expect in your home land. Road condition are poor, accommodation and transportation may be basic in remote area.

      Daily breakfast (B) is included on this trip. Other meals are at client’s expenses. However, the trip with full board meal is arranged upon request.

     The dress standards are conservative thoughout Asia. Loose, lightweight, long clothing are all respectful and cool in Asian hot climate. In addition to your items of personal clothing, we suggest you to bring trainer or sneaker shoes, jacket for cold weather, torch/flash light, hat, rain coat for wet season, sun cream, sunglasses, daypack, toiletries and small towel, insect repellent.
