This superb itinerary is a feast for the mind and spirit, juxtaposing the exploration of lost civilizations with an in-depth look at contemporary Cambodia culture. We spend time savouring the rich architectural delights of and Angkor temples. Alternatively, enjoy a morning cruising along the Tonle Sap, visiting local villages.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival - Phnom Penh

On arrival at Po Chen Tong Airport , you are met and transferred to hotel. Phnom Penh was once considered the  loveliest  city of Indochina. Despite its recent turbulent history, it still maintains considerable charm. A city tour acquaints us with its major sights. We visit the National Museum for an appreciation of the  splendour of Khmer history, the Royal Palace, the  sacred monument of Silver Pagoda, which is well known for its 5000 silver tiled floor,  the Central Market, and Wat Phnom, topped with a huge stupa as well as Buddhist temple . O/N in Phnom Penh.

Day 2: Phnom Penh - Siem Reap - Angkor Temples

 After breakfast, we transfer out to visit  the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum and the notorious ‘Killing Fields’ of Choeung Ek, which both provides a deep insight into  the painful bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge.  An early afternoon flight to Siem Reap. On arrival, you are met and transferred to hotel. The town of Siem Reap is our base for visiting the world famous temples of the ancient city Angkor, which was the capital of the powerful Khmer Empire from  802 AD to 1350 AD. After checking into hotel, we drive to the archeological area to visit  the South Gate of Angkor Thom, famous for its series of colossal human faces carved in stone, the impressive Bayon Temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. Day 3: Siem Reap - Angkor Temples

The temple of Ta Prohm, with enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers embracing themselves in the stone foundations of the structure giving the impression of man's creation being reclaimed by the powerful forces of nature is an incredible sight. We explore this masterpiece as well as its surrounding temples of Banteay Kdei, Sra Srong, Ta Keo, Thommanon, Chau Say Tevado. The largest as well as most complete structure of Angkor Wat is also visited this afternoon before we walk up to Phnom Bakheng Hill for a view of the spectacular sunset over these sandstone monuments. Day 4: Siem Reap - Banteay Srei - Angkor Temples

Heading out of the town, we explore some outlying sights including the Preah Dark village , the intricately carved and well preserved temple of Banteay Srei, the River of 1000 Lingas, locally named Kbal Spean and the Banteay Samre Temple, with its impressive reliefs depicting scenes of Vishunu as well as Krishna legends. We also have time, today seeing the grand circuit with Preah Khan, the Kravan, Neak Pean, Krol Ko, Ta Som, East Mebon, Pre Rup Temple and strolling around the town for your own exploration. Day 5:  Siem Reap - Departure

After breakfast, we embark on a short cruise on Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia’s biggest natural lake, stopping along the way for an enjoyable visit to a  floating village and fisherman at work ( If time permits). The tour ends after your transfer to Siem Reap Airport for departure. (B)

During the dry season (May - July) the low level of the Tonle Sap River does not permit a cruise to the fishing village on the Tonle Sap. The excursion will be replaced by a visit to The Chantiers Ecoles.
